The history of DSI Underground dates back to 1865 - the foundation of the Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG based in Karlsruhe, Germany.
In the 1970s, the first DSI companies were founded to distribute the know-how of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG internationally. In 2000, the DSI network consisted of more than 50 subsidiaries, licensees and agents.
DSI supplies special products for Australia's longest road tunnel in Brisbane, Australia. For the construction of the 5,000m long double tunnel, DSI supplies the AT-76 injection system used for the first time in Australia in addition to many other products and systems. The injection system protects the TBM in advance from water damage and ensuing failure
DSI acquires Schaum-Chemie Mikołów Sp. z o.o. The company acts as DSI Schaum Chemie on the market.
PT DSI Underground Indonesia opens new Manufacturing Facility for Mining Products in Indonesia. The new, 3,000m2 manufacturing facility in Gresik, Surabaya, East Java primarily produces friction bolts for mining.
Reorganization of the DSI Group. Effective March 2016, DSI Construction and DSI Underground operate as two separate divisions. DSI Construction continues to trade under “DSI” with the traditional company logo. DSI Underground adopts a new logo that goes into effect immediately.
DSI Underground opened the new Production Facility for Resin Capsules in Mikołów, Poland in order to be able to meet every demand, including urgent and highvolume orders.

Triton announces Sandvik Group, a Sweden-based public listed company, will be taking over DSI Underground. Sandvik is a high-tech and global engineering group with over 37,000 employees and is present in 160 countries. With this acquisition, Sandvik adds 20+ local production facilities and sales points globally and will be able to offer the industry’s widest range of mining products and solutions.
DSI Underground completed the acquisition of the training and virtual reality specialist Edvirt, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new set-up offers an unmatched virtual training system, enhancing safety and productivity across the underground development cycle.
Significant investments to upgrade the production of DSI Hollow Bar Systems in Austria. The investment in a new 1,600kW transformer, state-of-the-art automated bundling system and other products help contribute to reducing our environmental impact.
Sandvik completes the acquisition of DSI Underground. DSI will be included in the Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions new Ground Support Division as DSI Underground – a Sandvik Company. Customers will continue to receive the high-quality products and services they came to know from DSI, with this combination strengthening the offerings for our clients.
First production of MD / MDX Bolts in North America. With the installation of the first assembly line in Sturgeon Falls, ON, Canada, DSI is able to supply local customers with flexibility.
Sandvik Group acquires Norgalv, a galvanizing plant in Canada (North Bay, Ontario), in June 2023. The company supplies customers in the mining, grating, and guide rail sectors. From today Norgalv becomes a part of the Ground Support Division.
Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions expands its ground support offering in Western Africa to include the full DSI portfolio, with stocks now available locally in major mining markets: Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Mali.
