Packaging
Overview
The reduction of manual handling injuries is a key priority at DSI Underground, and we constantly assess and improve our processes to meet our goal of zero injuries. A complete supply chain management approach is used to ensure customer safety, transport safety, loading and manufacturing safety is upheld.
DSI Underground understand that ground support usage in mining is often not linear with unexpected changes in geology and constant unplanned challenges.
Batch sizes are influenced by the quantities needed to maintain supply to the mine and reduce your costs this is balanced against transport load restraints and site storage abilities. The minor bundle sizes are chosen to sustain underground shift requirements, pod sizes and minimise packaging waste and reduce excess inventory underground.
Strapping
DSI Underground have been progressively reducing steel strap packaging and securing products with Polyester (PET) strapping to not only reduce manual handling injuries such as cuts and lacerations but also to reduce product slipping during transit.
Export
All pallets used by DSI Underground Asia pacific are ISPN compliant and stamped. Loading software is used to ensure efficient use of container space with a product mix to suit site requirements. Container loading is done at our dedicated DSI Underground export facility with customs clearance through OZDOCS international.

Surface Support Plates
The range of surface support from DSI Underground complements the variety of bolts available, from star plates, dome plates, butterflies to flat plates can be tied or plastic strapped in packs of 5 to aid counting when loading underground transport. The larger packaging is dependent on product but is typically a box on a pallet with the quantity reflected in the product code.
Code* | Pack | Pack | Quantity |
---|---|---|---|
T196 | Wire tied | 5 | 1960 |
T098 | Wire tied | 5 | 980 |
T060 | Wire tied | 5 | 600 |
T200 | Wire tied | 10 | 2000 |
W098 | Wrap strap | 5 | 980 |
H | Half pallet | 600 | |
L | Loose | 980 | |
NM | No minor pack | 1500 |
Note: Codes with "G, EZ and GE" before the pack code represent coatings such as galvanising, please refer to the coatings section for reference.
Cable Bolts
The cable bolt lengths determine where they are coiled or supplied in straight bundles as is the case for 15.2mm cables under 5 meters in length. Coils are strapped to pallets in heights to suit road and container transport, with cable packs specifically designed to be loaded into cassettes or reels for bolting machines. Due to variations in machines and site procedures please consult your local DSI Underground representative for the best solutions.
